A little bit Chinese.

Can I tell you a little secret?

I love being half Chinese.

Cause I'm crazy about deep fried dumplings. imitating funny asian accents. chopsticks. the colour red. Chinese New Year. cantonese. chinese food. dim sum. dim sims. yum cha. meat pau. kung fu movies. jackie chan. my dad. chinese calligraphy. chinese muslims. lanterns. nyonya food (found in Melacca, Malaysia), chinese tea. mock roast duck.

and I'm especially crazy about Moon Cakes.

and the boxes they come in.

I'm so keeping this one as a Jewellery box.

It was Mid-Autumn Festival a couple weeks back...and my dad, being the world's most Awesome dad that he is, bought me this beautiful set especially for me. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for.

You can find them at your local Asian supermarket (although I doubt they are still selling them now, you might have to wait for next year!). But you must look for the ones with the Halal stamp on them...I wouldn't recommend getting a box without the stamp even if the ingredients look "safe".

They come in so many flavours. The popular ones usually have egg yolks in them. Me being me, I always take it out - not quite a fan of the salty, yellow ball. The ones I tried were White Lotus, Jade Custard, Taro Pumpkin...and a few others. Too. darn. good.

However, I must warn you, it is an acquired taste.

You'll never know until you try.

(Sorry for the lack of posts, I been occupied with my final year assignments. InshaAllah, I will have a ton of new recipes when it's all over after November.)

Secret Recipe Australia.

‎"When I'm depressed, I cut myself......

a piece of cake."

Make that chocolate cake.

It's true.

When I'm stressed or upset, I either bake or eat chocolate. Tons and tons of chocolate.
Say hello to Mrs. Pimples.

Right now, in the midst of finishing off my last semester (and trying so hard not to stress!), I could really do with some Secret Recipe cakes. Simple and delicious sponge cakes with plenty of cream. Just my kind of cake.

Secret Recipe is a Malaysian owned cafĂ©/restaurant which has spread throughout south-east Asia and here in Australia! I have grown up with it since young, and the day I found out it opened in Melbourne - I went spastic. If you're ever in Australia,  Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei and Pakistan, you have to drop by the closest Secret Recipe branch and try their delicious dessert range - pronto.

What to expect?

and of course, I must have my green tea everywhere I go.

They just keep growing and growing. Two more joints will be opening up in Melbourne - one in Melbourne Central and Knox Ozone. Yay! If you can't wait for it to open, I suggest you take a trip downtown to Chapel St or Fountain Gate now.

Disclaimer: I do not get paid to promote Secret Recipe. I simply do it out of love for great food. But if you happen to own a branch and would like to pay me, I'd be more than happy to accept your offer ;)
